Arsenal’s Ben White has opened up on the criticism he received at the start of his Arsenal career.

The centre-back was signed for big money in the summer. In turn a lot of pressure was put on the Englishman.

And whilst he has since, arguably, stepped up to the plate, White had a nightmare Arsenal debut. The Gunners lost 2-0 to Brentford in their first-ever Premier League match and White looked pretty weak on the day.

Ben White speaks out on criticism

During the game, Ben White was criticised by Gary Neville and Jamie Carragher and has now spoken out about the pundit’s comments: “I saw it and I think it was the first time I’ve been singled out.

“It’s never a nice feeling but it gave me more incentive to go out there and do well. The fact is that some of the stuff they said was true.”

White has also spoken out about his struggles as a young footballer:

“I wasn’t good enough when I was younger. I was a late developer. I was probably as tall as I am now but really skinny, gangly, couldn’t really run. And I didn’t play at all when I was a kid at Southampton. There were always people playing in front of me”
