An insight into the kind of budget likely to be at the disposal of the transfer team at Newcastle United upon the opening of the summer window has been provided this weekend.
The info comes courtesy of the reliable Luke Edwards of The Telegraph, who suggests that, in news which will no doubt come as a disappointment to the club’s fans, the Magpies will be forced to make do with a lower set of funds than they were afforded this past January.
Newcastle’s new Saudi owners of course splashed out around £90 million across the winter window, on the additions of all of Kieran Trippier, Chris Wood, Bruno Guimaraes, Dan Burn and Matt Targett.
Player sales, though, could yet boost the club’s budget, with free transfers and loan deals also set to be taken into consideration.

This means that, despite links with the likes of Paul Pogba, Antonio Rudiger and Gareth Bale, Eddie Howe’s squad is altogether unlikely to be reinforced by any ‘superstar’ additions ahead of next season.
Since writing that #nufc will not be making superstar signings earlier this week I’ve seen spurious links with them being interested in Bale, Rudiger and Pogba on free transfers. They are not pursuing any of them. That is simply not the market they are operating in.

Turning attentions back towards the pitch, all at Newcastle will of course already have one eye firmly fixed on the club’s next outing, a week from tomorrow.
This comes with the Geordie outfit set to make the trip to north London, for a Premier League showdown with Antonio Conte’s Tottenham.
Eddie Howe and co. will head into proceedings desperate for a return to winning ways, having seen a scintillating spell of form since late January brought to a grinding halt over the last couple of weeks, courtesy of back-to-back defeats at the hands of Chelsea and Everton.
