Concern is no doubt spreading on the Lilywhite half of north London, after word was forthcoming that an important member of Antonio Conte’s Tottenham setup has departed international duty prematurely.

The player in question? Ben Davies.

Stopper Davies was back in action for his country during the week, featuring from the off alongside club teammate Joe Rodon as a Gareth Bale-inspired Wales got the better of Austria to move one step closer to a spot at the Qatar World Cup.

The long-time Spurs star, for his part, saw out the entirety of the 90 minutes at the Cardiff City Stadium, even chipping in with an assist.

As alluded to above, though, Davies is set to play no part in Wales’ next outing, when Robert Page’s men play host to the Czech Republic on Tuesday night.

This comes with the 28-year-old having today departed the Dragons’ camp.

An explanation for Davies’ early return to north London has not been provided as part of the Welsh statement, sparking fears of a potential fitness problem picked up by the versatile left-back.

Magpies next up

Davies’ availability for Spurs’ next outing, as a result, has been thrown into doubt.

Antonio Conte’s men are set to make their post-international break return to action a week from today, in a Premier League meeting with Newcastle United at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium.

Whether or not Conte will be able to call on Davies, who has played an increasingly important role under the watch of the Italian of late, for the capital clash, though, remains to be seen.
