It is being claimed that Arsenal are interested in the services of Manchester United and England defender Harry Maguire.

According to football.london citing Praizsports, ‘Arsenal are interested in signing Manchester United defender Harry Maguire.

‘The Red Devils captain has garnered considerable criticism this season for his performances, with many questioning the Englishman’s ability at the top level.’

No potential fee is mentioned, but the news of Arsenal’s alleged interest in Maguire comes just a few days after it emerged the Gunners were also looking at Marcus Rashford.

Should Arsenal sign Maguire?

The news that Arsenal are said to be interested in Harry Maguire is pretty surprising.

Mikel Arteta has done an excellent job of removing the high-profile, controversial characters from his squad, with Granit Xhaka now arguably the only player left that fits that bill.

Signing Maguire, though, would completely derail that. The Englishman comes with a lot of baggage and would no doubt bring a lot of unwanted media attention to the club.

It is also worth pointing out that Arsenal’s backline has been solid for much of the 2021/22 season.

After a rough opening three gameweeks, Ben White and Gabriel have formed a solid partnership at the base of the north Londoners’ defence.

And, all being well, Arsenal should be able to welcome back William Saliba to their squad for next season after the young defender has spent 2021/22 impressing with Marseille and earning his France debut.

Manchester United, even if they stand no chance of recouping the £80m paid to Leicester, would still also likely demand a premium fee for Maguire this summer.
