Bruno Fernandes has signed a new deal with Manchester United, the club have announced.

Fernandes’ previous deal ran until 2025 with it reported there was an option for an extra year.

Now, as confirmed by Manchester United, the 27-year-old has penned fresh terms until 2026, with this deal also including the option of a one-year extension:

After signing his new deal, Fernandes had this to say: “From the moment that I joined Manchester United, I have had a special relationship with the club and our amazing fans. I grew up watching this team, dreaming of getting the chance to play here one day.

“That dream is now a reality and an honour. Even after two years, it still feels amazing to step out at Old Trafford, to hear the fans sing my song and to score in front of the Stretford End. It is a true privilege to wear this shirt and to fight for our incredible club.

“There is so much more that I want to achieve here, and I know that is the same for the rest of the squad and staff. More than anything, we want to give the fans the success that they deserve.

“We have shared some great moments over the last years, but the best is yet to come from myself and this team.”

Bruno Fernandes’ Manchester United stint

The signing of Bruno Fernandes looked to be one of the best bits of business Manchester United had done in years.

The Portuguese arrived at Old Trafford from Sporting CP in January of 2020, and would go on to completely dominate the English top-flight for 18 months.

Fernandes, of course, played a key role in United securing a Champions League spot in 2019/20.

The midfield maestro was then once again in top form last season. In total, Fernandes netted 28 and assisted 17 in 58 outings across all competitions – a feat which saw him named as Man United’s Player of the Year.

His sensational form has waned slightly in the current campaign, but Manchester United as a squad are seriously struggling.

Still, Fernandes has been able to net nine and assist 14 in 37 outings for the Red Devils in 2021/22, which is still a pretty respectable record for someone not playing close to their best right now.
