Ahead of the game, Liverpool released their matchday squad an hour before kick-off. All of the regular names were in the squad. However, a number of them, including Luis Diaz and Trent Alexander-Arnold, found themselves on the bench.

Now, Klopp has offered an expiation for the benching of Luis Diaz, telling BT Sport: “Luis Diaz is on the bench because he was in Colombia.

“It is always tricky. We had to wait until the last minute really to make decisions.”

Liverpool vs Watford

Liverpool head into the Watford game as the Premier League’s in-form side.

They have won all of their last five, have scored the most goals in the English top-flight this term and boast the third-best defensive record.

Watford, on the other hand, are in simply woeful form. The Hornets sit 18th in the Premier League ahead of gameweek 30, three points off 17th-placed Everton who also have two games in hand.

Roy Hodgson’s side have lost three on the bounce and have the third-worst defensive record in the division at present.

Should Liverpool win this weekend and Manchester City lose, the Merseysiders will go top of the Premier League, as they currently sit just one point adrift of the Citizens.
