Thiago Silva’s wife has hit out at criticism the Chelsea defender received during the Blues’ loss to Brentford on Saturday.

Belle Silva, wife of Chelsea defender Thiago Silva, has defended her husband online after it was suggested on commentary that the centre-back was not attacking enough.

In response to said comments, Belle took to Instagram to urge people to show respect to her husband who only arrived back in England from Brazil on Friday:

“I’m here in my box at Stamford Bridge. I just listened back to the commentary right now and what the commentator said,” Silva’s wife stated.

“‘Thiago is not attacking enough.’ Respect him, please. Thiago Silva arrived yesterday as he played for Brazil. Thiago Silva is very tired, and he’s 37-years-old. He’s played since he was 20-years-old so respect to him- he’s not a machine, he’s human, so he needs to relax, alright.”

Chelsea’s defensive woes

Belle’s comments are somewhat valid as the 37-year-old probably should not be playing as often as he is right now.

However, injuries to Ben Chilwell and Reece James, as well as Andreas Christensen being frozen out amid his seemingly imminent departure, has left Thomas Tuchel with very few options at the back.

Malang Sarr could have filled in for the South American vs Brentford, but it is expected that he will instead be starting at left-back vs Real Madrid next week. So, it is easy to see why Tuchel wanted to rest him ahead of huge game.

But with Chelsea set to play at least another 11 games this season, there is a risk of Silva becoming burnt out.
