Comments on the part of Gus Poyet and Carlo Ancelotti have highlighted which two Real Madrid players Chelsea need to be wary of this week.

The Blues take on Real Madrid in the first of two Champions League quarter-final ties.

Ahead of the game, all signs point towards Chelsea desperately needing to keep both Karim Benzema and Luka Modric quiet.

Benzema has been one of the best strikers in the world since Cristiano Ronaldo left the club, whilst Luka Modric is ageing like a fine wine and put on another stellar display vs PSG in the Champions League recently.

Now, speaking recently, Ancelotti stated that every day Benzema and Modric get better:

“Every day they are better. I have the pleasure of being with them. Karim had an injury, now he’s back, and Luka always plays at his best, wherever he is,” the Italian stated.

Elsewhere, former Tottenham defender and coach Gus Poyet has echoed the thoughts of Ancelotti and warned Chelsea that Modric is the best midfielder he has coached in his career.

Speaking to Spanish outlet AS, the Uruguayan said: “Modric has an understanding, a quality, a balance in his game, the position, how he looks for the ball… With respect to others, the best I had in front of me.”

Chelsea vs Real Madrid

Chelsea head into the Real Madrid game on the back of a pretty concerning 4-1 loss at the hands of Brentford.

Despite this major upset, Thomas Tuchel is still likely confident of getting one over on Madrid this week and next week.

The German would beat Real with Chelsea in the semi-finals of last season’s Champions League, with the Blues of course going on to win the competition.

And before that, Tuchel was already unbeaten against the Spanish powerhouse when in charge of both Borussia Dortmund and PSG:
