Atletico Madrid boss Diego Simeone has highlighted the difference between Manchester United and their cross-town rivals, Manchester City.

Simeone’s Atletico Madrid would, of course, face off with Man United in the last 16 of the Champions League earlier this year, coming away with a 2-1 win after two legs.

Atletico dominated United for large periods over the two legs, especially in the final game. However, Manchester City, who they have drawn in the quarter-finals and will face for the first time on Tuesday evening, are expected to be a much tougher test.

Simeone explains difference between Manchester United & Manchester City

Simeone seemingly realises this and made it clear in an interview ahead of the game that Man City are one of the favourites to win the competition.

Elsewhere, specifically on the differences between the two Manchester teams, the Argentine had this to say:

“United have different characteristics than City, who are a lot more direct and quicker,” said Simeone. “In all areas of the pitch they manage things well and I think we will have to be quicker and more direct in the things we need to do than we were three weeks ago.

“We are playing against really tough opponents, who press high and flood the box with players. We’re going to use our characteristics, the way we have played for years, and play where we think we can hurt them. City have extraordinary players. I’m sure they have better players than us. City and Bayern Munich are the favourites, because of the characteristic of their players. But last season Chelsea won the Champions League and not many people expected that.”
