Greek outfit Olympiacos are set to host Ukrainian side Shakhtar Donetsk in a friendly match this weekend.

This of course comes with Ukrainian sides currently unable to compete in any competitions following Russia’s invasion of their country on the 24th of February 2022.

Ukraine’s national team is still yet to learn its World Cup fate as their qualifying match with Scotland has been pushed back to June because of the war.

Elsewhere, Shakhtar have not played a league match since the 18th of February.

Amid the stoppage to football in Ukraine, some clubs, including Manchester City, have allowed players from Ukraine to train with them.

Now, Olympiacos have confirmed they will face Shakhtar this coming Saturday in a friendly with all proceeds from the game going towards supporting refugees:

“On Saturday, April 9, at 20:00, OLYMPIAKOS will host the Ukrainian Shakhtar Donetsk in an international friendly match for Peace and the end of the war,” the Greek side confirmed in a statement. “This is the first of a series of friendly matches between the Ukrainian team and top clubs in Europe and America. Fans can come to the stadium with their season ticket or with a single ticket worth 10 euros. All proceeds from the fight will be donated to financially supporting the refugees.”
