Arsenal have been handed a boost in their reported pursuit of Lille midfielder Renato Sanches.

Renato Sanches would join Lille in August of 2019 on the back of a fairly poor spell with Bayern Munich, which also included an awful loan stint with Swansea City.

However, since moving to France, Sanches has rediscovered some of his best form that had previously led to Bayern buying him as a youngster back in 2016.

The now 24-year-old has featured 86 times for Lille, scoring six goals and providing 10 assists.

Sanches, of course, would also play a key role in helping Lille end PSG’s dominance over Ligue 1 last term.

Such fine form appeared to attract the interest of both Arsenal and AC Milan. And whilst it did look as though the Italian outfit were set to win the race for the Portuguese, football.london citing Sport Mediaset are now reporting that Arsenal have been handed a boost in their pursuit of the Lille midfielder, with his contract demands pricing himself out of a proposed transfer to AC Milan.

Arsenal need central midfielders

Whether it be Sanches or somebody else, it is clear Arsenal must sign a central midfielder in the summer.

Mohamed Elneny is out of contract in June, meaning the north Londoners will have just Granit Xhaka, Albert Sambi Lokonga, Thomas Partey and Ainsley Maitland-Niles (currently on loan with AS Roma) as central midfield options.

And as Partey is injury prone and Arsenal are expected to be playing some form of European football next term, fresh legs in midfield seem like a must.
