An update on the fitness of Barcelona star Pedri has been forthcoming on the back of the club’s meeting with Eintracht Frankfurt, and spells altogether concerning news for all associated with the club.

For those not aware, midfield starlet Pedri was hauled off at the interval in Barca’s return to European action this evening.

After he pulled up with a muscular issue late in the first-half, Xavi opted to replace the Spanish international at the break, with Frenkie de Jong introduced in his place.

A subsequent update across the club’s social media platforms a short time later, meanwhile, confirmed that Pedri was suffering with ‘left hamstring discomfort’:

And now, as alluded to above, an insight into the extent of the 19-year-old’s problem has been provided.

As per a report from the generally reliable Fernando Polo of Mundo Deportivo, there is ‘a lot of pessimism’ regarding Pedri’s wellbeing post-match, amid legitimate concerns that the midfielder may not return to the pitch until next season:

Depay’s late spot-kick not enough

The latest word on Pedri’s fitness of course caps off what proved to be a dismal night all-round for Barcelona on Thursday.

The Blaugrana welcomed the aforementioned Eintracht to the Camp Nou, hopeful of going one better after securing a share of the spoils in Germany last week owing to Ferran Torres’ 2nd-half equaliser.

With a little over 20 minutes to play in Catalunya, though, any such hopes had been left all but dead in the water.

This came as a brilliant Eintracht display saw the day’s visitors race out to a 3-0 advantage, owing to a Filip Kostic double, either side of Rafael Santos Borré’s stunning long-range strike:

Late goals on the part of Sergio Busquets and Memphis Depay, in turn, were left to stand as little more than a consolation, as Barca were sent packing from the Europa League in frankly embarrassing fashion.
