Spanish giants Barcelona have had a change of heart when it comes to the future of loanee Luuk de Jong, according to reports.

For those not aware, word stemming from the Spanish media earlier this week pointed towards the possibility of an extended stay for hitman de Jong in Catalunya steadily increasing, amid the Dutchman’s impressive exploits in front of goal.

Such claims came just days on from de Jong notching yet another last-gasp Blaugrana winner, en route to a 3-2 triumph over Levante:

Reports hinting at de Jong staying put for another season were, as expected met with widespread approval on the part of the Barcelona faithful, with the experienced attacker having long endured himself to the club’s fanbase.

Such supporters, in turn, will no doubt be left altogether more disappointed by a fresh update on the situation to have surfaced this weekend.

As per Spanish outlet Diario Sport, in fact, those in a position of power at the Camp Nou have come to the decision that they will not enter into negotiations with their Sevilla counterparts over prolonging de Jong’s loan terms.

This comes with Xavi and co. instead expected to focus their attentions on landing a younger goalscorer, to act as competition for current first-choice Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang.

Attentions towards Cadiz

The latest word on de Jong’s future of course comes with the Dutch international expected to play at least some part in a little over 24 hours’ time, when Barca return to action.

After seeing the club’s Europa League hopes go up in smoke at the hands of Eintracht Frankfurt during the week, the Catalans are set to turn their attentions back towards matters on the domestic front, in a La Liga meeting with relegation-battling Cadiz.

The panel of players set to be at the disposal of boss Xavi for the clash was unveiled a short time ago, as follows:
