A pair of former Celtic stars have joined the club’s supporters in making their frustrations with referee Bobby Madden clear, on the back of the Bhoys’ showdown with Rangers on Sunday afternoon.

The latest edition of the Old Firm derby, of course, played out a short time ago.

Just a fortnight on from Celtic emerging triumphant from a league meeting between the two sides at Ibrox, the two heavyweights of Scottish football locked horns once more, on this occasion in the semi-finals of the Cup.

When all was said and done this time round, though, it was the blue half of Glasgow who enjoyed the last laugh.

This came despite Celtic opening the game’s scoring just beyond the hour mark, as Scott Arfield’s equaliser fifteen minutes later was followed by a Carl Starfelt own goal deep into extra time, to ensure that Rangers, not Celtic, march on to the finale of the Scottish Cup.

Madden targeted

On the back of the action coming to a close at Hampden Park, it should therefore come as little surprise to hear of the Celtic faithful making their frustrations crystal clear post-match.

Many have opted to direct their anger at the club’s stars, owing to a frankly underwhelming display across the 120 minutes on Sunday.

Others, however, have pointed the finger of blame largely at referee Bobby Madden, amid claims of heavy bias towards Rangers throughout the clash.

Check out the best of the reaction from across social media below, fronted by none other than former Bhoys pair Chris Sutton and Alan Thompson:
