A major update has emerged in Arsenal’s pursuit of Manchester City striker Gabriel Jesus as it has emerged that personal terms are ‘pretty much done and dusted’ between the Gunners and the Brazilian forward.

This news comes courtesy of David Ornstein, who first broke the news that Arsenal were in conversations with the striker about a potential switch to the Emirates next season. Jesus, who scored four times in his last outing for Manchester City, is out of contract in 2023, and has as of yet shown no inclination to extend his stay in Manchester.

With additional reports from Ornstein that Erling Haaland is closing in on a move to Manchester City, and Argentine forward Julian Alvarez also on his way to northwest England this summer, Jesus may see his already limited playing time further cut should he remain with Pep Guardiola’s side.

Personal terms close, but deal not done

Now, speaking on The Athletic’s podcast, the reliable David Ornstein has revealed that personal terms between Jesus and Arsenal are effectively done, and that their interest is very much genuine, but that a deal is not close to being complete as the two clubs are yet to negotiate for the player.

‘Edu and Gabriel Jesus’ reps have been talking for a number of months to the extent that, that part of the negotiations is pretty much done and dusted. He is the profile of striker Mikel arteta is looking to bring in. I think they want to bring in two forwards’, Ornstein told the podcast.

‘There has been no contact between clubs yet. That’s obviously a significant step that would need to be taken. But the early indications are that this a move that Gabriel Jesus would be open to.’

‘As things stand, Arsenal are the favourites to sign Gabriel Jesus, but nothing is done yet’.
