Spanish heavyweights Barcelona have been dealt a fresh blow on the personnel front on Friday, it has been confirmed.

Recent weeks have of course proven altogether unkind to the Blaugrana when it comes to fitness levels, with the likes of Pedri, Gerard Pique, Oscar Mingueza and Ronald Araujo forced, at various points, onto the treatment table.

In turn, amid an alarming dip in form on the part of his side, the last thing which boss Xavi Hernandez would have wanted to hear of was yet another injury concern.

But, on Friday, this is precisely what has been forthcoming.

As confirmed in a series of posts across the club’s social media platforms, Nico Gonzalez is set for a spell on the sidelines.

This comes after the Spanish starlet suffered ‘a fracture in the fourth toe of his left foot’, presumably during a training session in midweek.

Mallorca next up

Nico, in turn, is set to miss out this weekend, when Xavi leads his side back into La Liga action.

Barca are set to welcome RCD Mallorca to the Camp Nou on Sunday night, desperate for a return to winning ways.

This comes with the Catalan giants having seen their form fall off a cliff over the course of the last couple of weeks, en route to three defeats in four, including last time out at the hands of Rayo Vallecano.

Mallorca, though, are unlikely to prove pushovers, with Javier Aguirre’s outfit currently in the midst of a tense battle to maintain their top-flight status, sitting two points clear of the La Liga relegation zone with five games to play.
