Eddie Howe has been speaking to the press ahead of Newcastle United’s next outing.

Newcastle will face off with Liverpool in Saturday’s early Premier League kick-off.

Ahead of the game, Howe provided an injury update on his side. The Newcastle boss confirmed that they have no fresh injuries, though both Kieran Trippier and Callum Wilson are once again expected to miss out this weekend:

“We have no fresh injuries,” Howe said. “Kieran Trippier and Callum Wilson are getting closer but I don’t think they will be ready for this week.”

Eddie Howe on Fabian Schar contract

Elsewhere, Howe would speak out about Fabian Schar’s new contract.

The defender has been a mainstay at St James’ Park for many years now and looks set to have secured his spot in Newcastle’s next chapter as a club.

When discussing Schar on Friday, Howe had this to say: “I really like him as a player and he’s performed very well.

“Everyone knows how he’s technically a very good footballer but he’s proved he can defend very effectively within the team structure. I’m delighted with him.”

“He’s been the ultimate professional off the pitch as well. He’s been a big part of the leadership within the team as well so I think he’s a role model for the younger players to look at in terms of how to conduct yourself, so I’m delighted for him.”
