Manchester United interim manager Ralf Rangnick has, on Friday, confirmed that he will be taking the role of Austria manager from the end of the 2021/22 season.

This of course coms after the German missed out on becoming Manchester United’s permanent to Erik ten Hag.

However, despite becoming Austria boss, Ralf Rangnick is set to remain at United in some capacity, fulfilling his role of consultant for the next two years:

“I will take over as national team manager of Austria at the end of the season but will continue my consultancy with Manchester United,” Rangnick said. “I’m really looking forward to playing my part in helping United become a real force again.”

How will this impact Manchester United?

The details of Ralf Rangnick’s consultancy role remain somewhat unclear at present, though it is assumed he will have some say in who Manchester United sign going forward.

However, this begs the question, will Rangnick be able to help with transfers whilst managing a national side?

The summer transfer window, barring this year, always clashes with the European Championship and World Cup, meaning that Rangnick would likely be very busy with Austria most summers, leaving little time for transfer work.

Of course, the German can still advise on players to sign before the summer, but having Rangnick unavailable for several months each year is probably not an ideal situation.
