Arsenal icon Ray Parlour has admitted that he is worried about playing Nuno Tavares against Tottenham Hotspur.
The full-back has had to fill in at left-back for Arsenal’s last several games due to Kieran Tierney being sidelined ahead of the Gunners’ loss to Crystal Palace.
Tavares has since put in a number of questionable displays, with his decision making and lack of defensive awareness often putting his side into precarious positions.
Now, when speaking about Tavares on talkSPORT, Parlour said: “I worry about the full-back areas. Tierney is brilliant if he stays fit. He’s been injured quite often in an Arsenal shirt.
“Defensively, he’s (Tavares) not the best if I’m being honest. He’s got to improve on that.
“He’s better in a three at the back, when he plays wing-back. But he’s vulnerable at left-back.
“And I’m sure Spurs will be saying; ‘Well OK, let’s play down the left-hand side and Tavares.’”
Tottenham vs Arsenal
The final north London derby of the 2021/22 campaign is set to play out next week.
The game will be a huge one due to the ramifications it will have on the race for the top-four.
Before that game, though, Tottenham must take on Liverpool and Arsenal must face off with Leeds United in gameweek 36 of the Premier League.
Regardless of whatever happens this weekend, however, the NLD this coming Thursday is a great chance for both sides to gain ground/put some distance between their city rivals in the race for 4th.
Arsenal go into the game in the better form of the two teams, though the Gunners do have several key players out injured.
