Manchester City welcomed Newcastle United to the Etihad on Sunday afternoon, looking to bounce back from their loss to Real Madrid and retake their place atop of the English top-flight.

Liverpool dropped points vs Tottenham on Saturday, meaning City would go three points clear of the Reds with three to play if they picked up a win over the Magpies.

And, despite a collapse in midweek, the Citizens were back to their best vs Eddie Howe and co.

City opened the scoring 19 minutes in via Raheem Sterling with Aymeric Laporte making it 2-0 shortly before the break.

Rodri then killed the tie off after 61 minutes, with late goals from Phil Foden and Raheem Sterling adding a little gloss to the scoreline:

Manchester City’s injury issues

It was not all positive for Man City on Sunday, however, as Ruben Dias was taken off 46 minutes into the match, with Aymeric Laporte following suit later in the tie.

And, when speaking post-match, Pep Guardiola claimed that the Sky Blues now have no central defenders:

“Muscular problems, we see what happens. We have 13 players and a half, Nathan isn’t in a perfect condition. We have no central defenders. If Phil Foden has to play central defender, he will play CB.”

Then, in a further update, the Spaniard reported that all of Dias, Laporte and Kyle Walker are out until the end of the season:
