Gabriel Martinelli’s future at Arsenal has been cast into doubt by reports stemming from Portugal.

Gabriel Martinelli joined Arsenal in July of 2019. The Gunners are understood to have paid just over £6m for the Brazilian.

And Martinelli proved one of Arsenal’s bright sparks during his debut 2019/20 season.

The 20-year-old scored 10 and assisted four across 26 outings for the club, including a stunning individual effort vs Chelsea in the Premier League.

However, the Brazilian’s campaign was brought to a premature end when he suffered a knee injury, which also saw him miss the start of 2020/21.

Martinelli eventually returned to action midway through last season, but didn’t really rediscover the form he found during the early days of his Arsenal career.

2021/22, though, has been a much more impressive campaign for the South American.

After Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang was frozen out by Mikel Arteta and then shipped off to Barcelona, Arteta began to hand Martinelli more regular appearances.

And, for the most part, Martinelli has grabbed this opportunity with both hands, scoring five and assisting five in 26 league appearances.

In turn, with Martin Odegaard, Bukayo Saka and Emile Smith Rowe and Martinelli all in great form and still fairly young, Arsenal’s attacking midfield options looked to be set for the next several years.

Now though, the latter of that quartet is being linked with a move away from north London via Portuguese outlet A Bola.

The report claims that the Brazilian winger is on the verge of moving on from the north Londoners, with Atletico Madrid interested in signing the youngster.
