Gameweek 37 of the 2021/22 Premier League season is set to play out over the upcoming weekend.
The action kicks off on Sunday afternoon at 12 pm with Tottenham playing host to Burnley.
The gameweek will then draw to a close on Tuesday evening when Jurgen Klopp’s Liverpool face off with Southampton.
Ahead of the weekend’s action getting underway, 101 have therefore picked out five key talking points.
Arsenal under pressure
The race for the Champions League took another massive twist earlier this week as Tottenham battered a hapless Arsenal 3-0 in the north London derby.
Said win saw Spurs climb to within a point of the Gunners with just two games left to play. The Lilywhites also have a much better goal difference than their city rivals, meaning Mikel Arteta’s side cannot afford any sort of slip up this week.
However, Thomas Partey and Kieran Tierney remain out, Rob Holding is suspended, Gabriel is an injury doubt and Ben White has only just returned to action and did not look fully fit on Thursday.
Arsenal also have to face Newcastle at St James’ Park this weekend, whilst Spurs, on paper, get an easier test at home to Burnley.
The title race continues
After Manchester City hammered Wolves 5-1 in midweek, Liverpool’s hopes of securing a second Premier League title are very much fading.
However, there is some hope that the Sky Blues will drop points this weekend. Man City have a tough test away to David Moyes’ West Ham, whilst Liverpool are expected to greatly improve their goal difference by smashing Southampton on Tuesday.
Who is going down?
At the other end of the table, meanwhile, the fight to avoid relegation continues.
Everton have put some distance between themselves and 18th, but Leeds and Burnley remain in a relegation scrap.
Leeds United currently occupy 18th place, with Burnley only above them via goal difference. However, the Clarets do have a game in hand on the Whites.
Much like the title race and the battle for 4th, the fight to stay up looks set to go down to the final day.
West Ham’s search for Europa League football
Elsewhere, West Ham’s quest for Europa League football continues.
Manchester United currently occupy 6th spot, but are not in action this weekend as they have already played 37 league games.
As a result, if West Ham win this weekend, they will go above the Red Devils due to goal difference. However, their game is against Manchester City, a side they have not beaten in 90 minutes since 2015.
Can Crystal Palace make history?
Patrick Vieira has done a solid job at Crystal Palace during his first season in charge and is on course to make history with the club.
The Eagles’ highest finish in the Premier League is 10th, with their highest points total 49.
Therefore, if Palace win their remaining three league games, they can surpass both their points total and highest league finish, depending on how results elsewhere go, as they are currently 11th with 44 points.
