Incoming Manchester United boss Erik ten Hag has confirmed that he would like Cristiano Ronaldo to be a part of his plans for next season at Old Trafford.

The 37 year old has been a sole shining light for the Red Devils this season, firing in 18 Premier League goals even as his side have slumped from title contenders to Europa League footballers in the space of a season.

And, having never played outside of the Champions League, and with plenty of discourse around whether the veteran is suited to playing in a pressing system, there were question marks over the future of Ronaldo at Manchester United ahead of next season.

However, new boss Erik ten Hag has revealed that he wants the icon to remain at Old Trafford beyond this summer, with his contract due to expire at the end of next season.

‘I want to keep Cristiano at Man United, of course. He has been very important for this club’, the soon to be Manchester United manager revealed.

‘Ronaldo is a giant, because of everything he has shown so far and because of how ambitious he is’.

Major surgery required

Even if Ronaldo remains a Red Devil next season, plenty of work is required on the squad, with Ralf Rangnick claiming that the side needed up to 10 new faces this summer.

Top of the list must be midfielders to replace the departing Nemanja Matic and Paul Pogba, while full-backs, strikers and centre-backs must also all be on the agenda.

For next season, likely only Ronaldo, David De Gea and Jadon Sancho can be assured of their places in the playing XI.
