The 2021/22 Championship play-off final will take place on Saturday afternoon.

This year’s showpiece will see Huddersfield Town take on Nottingham Forest.

Forest would see off Sheffield United in their semi-final, winning the first leg 2-1 before then going 2-1 down in the reverse leg, meaning the game had to be taken to penalties.

Forest then won the shootout 3-2 thanks to some heroics on the part of Brice Samba.

Huddersfield, meanwhile, beat Luton Town in their semi-final as they look for a return to the Premier League.

When were Nottingham Forest last in the Premier League?

For Huddersfield, a win on Sunday afternoon would represent a fairly swift return to the Premier League, having been relegated from the top-flight back in the 2018/19 campaign when they finished 20th.

However, Nottingham Forest have been waiting much longer for their return to the top-flight.

Forest were once at the top of the English game, winning the First Division in 1977/78 and the European Cup (now the Champions League) in successive seasons from 1978 to 1980.

However, the glory years are now well behind Forest. When the Premier League was formed in 1992/93, they spent one season in the top-flight before being relegated to Division 1 (the Championship).

They then won promotion the following campaign, were relegated again in 1997, came back up a year later before then being relegated from the top-flight for one final time in 1999.
