Arsenal, West Ham & AS Monaco are interested in signing Lille midfielder Amadou Onana, according to reports stemming from France.

The information comes via FootMercato who claim that after Lille failed to qualify for Europe, they are likely to be forced into selling off some first-team stars to help balance the books.

Renato Sanches, Jonathan David and Sven Botman are mentioned as potential sales, but Amadou Onana also has a chance of leaving, with Lille’s management aware that an exit for the 20-year-old may be on the cards.

FootMercato add that there have been no concrete offers, but they do confirm that West Ham, Arsenal and AS Monaco are interested.

No information is given on a potential fee, but if Arsenal and co. know that Lille need to sell, Onana could be available for a reduced fee.

Who is Amadou Onana?

Onana joined Lille in August of 2021 from Hamburger SV for a fee of around £6.3m.

The midfielder went on to enjoy a solid debut season in France, scoring three and assisting one across 42 outings in all competitions.

Onana is a natural defensive midfielder, but he is also able to operate as a centre-back if required.

This would make him an especially useful signing for West Ham as they have a small squad. For Arsenal, though, the signing of Onana does not appear to make that much sense given they have Thomas Partey and Mohamed Elneny to fill that role.
