Manchester United may have received a blow in their pursuit of Jurrien Timber.

The defender is currently leaning towards staying at Ajax for another season, according to De Telegraaf, with the Dutch club now growing in confidence of being able to keep hold of him despite the interest from the Red Devils.

With the World Cup just around the corner, the Amsterdammers believe they can take advantage of this in keeping Timber.

At Ajax, the player is guaranteed his place in the starting line-up which will boost his chances of being selected for the Netherlands.

Meanwhile, at Man United, Timber has no assurances that, even with Erik ten Hag in charge, he will start every match.

They are now starting to receive signals that Timber will stay for at least another season and are even hoping to open new contract talks.

On Tuesday, the Guardian were reporting that he considers United a club he would like to join, but it could be that they are forced to wait another season to get their man.

In better news, as per the Sun, Manchester United are confident of being able to land Frenkie de Jong in a deal worth £50 million.

Ten Hag has identified the Dutch midfielder as the player to replace Paul Pogba.

De Jong may need persuading to leave, with the 24-year-old happy at the Camp Nou.

However, Barca’s financial situation could force him out the door.
