Argentina and Aston Villa goalkeeper Emiliano Martinez has been discussing Manchester City new boy, Julian Alvarez.

Alvarez was signed by Premier League powerhouse Man City earlier this year and is now expected to link up with the Sky Blues ahead of 2022/23, after spending some time back on loan in his home country with River Plate.

All told, Alvarez has featured 18 times for River Plate in their current season, netting 14 and assisting four in the process.

And while he is unlikely to garner such an impressive return in his first season for City, he should be adequate back-up for Erling Haaland.

Alvarez, though, is currently away on international duty with Argentina, who he has made nine senior appearances for since his debut last year.

And, whilst away with Argentina, Emiliano Martinez has been full of praise for the 22-year-old, predicting that Alvarez will be a superstar for Manchester City:

“We all know the talent that Julian has. But he is a very humble guy who has sacrificed himself and has worked hard to get where he is,” Martinez said of Alvarez.

“He is going to do well at City. In fact, I think he is going to be a superstar. I wanted him to come to Aston Villa. Before the Copa America last year, I told him to join us. But it was clear that City were already in position.

“Julian is going to do well there. We are talking about him working with one of the best coaches in the world. He will bring a lot of quality, but also a lot of commitment to the team.”
