Premier League outfit Arsenal have, on Thursday, responded to an initial inquiry for the services of defender Nuno Tavares.

The outfit expressing an interest in the 22-year-old? Atalanta.

As per Italian transfer expert Gianluca Di Marzio, Serie A side Atalanta ‘have set their sights’ on the signature of Portuguese youth international Tavares ahead of next season.

La Dea are understood to be keen on a loan deal featuring an option to buy, evidently of the opinion that the left-back’s talents would be better suited to Italian football than its English equivalent.

The ensuing terms put on the table by the transfer team at Arsenal, however, ‘did not meet the will’ of their counterparts at Atalanta.

This comes with the Gunners having made clear that Tavares would only be granted a departure based on one of two conditions – A dry loan, or a loan with an option to buy for a hefty €40 million.

A deal, in turn, looks altogether unlikely to come to fruition at present.

Vieira incoming

Turning attentions towards incomings, it has of course proven an altogether more successful day on the part of Edu Gaspar and co.

This comes with those in a position of power on the red half of north London having thrashed out a deal for the first summer addition to Mikel Arteta’s squad.

In something of a bolt from the blue, a short time ago, it was confirmed by a host of reliable sources that the Gunners have reached a definitive agreement with Portuguese giants Porto over the signature of attack-minded midfielder Fabio Vieira.
