Christian Eriksen is closing in on a move to Manchester United this summer, having verbally agreed to join Erik ten Hag at Old Trafford before next season.

The 30-year-old is a free agent following the end of his contract with Brentford, and despite the Bees’ hopes of keeping the Dane in London, the prospect of playing European football once more was clearly too good to turn down.

As per David Ornstein of The Athletic, the former Tottenham midfielder has verbally agreed to accept a three-year deal at Old Trafford, where he will add significant technically quality to a side that relied heavily on Scott McTominay and Fred in their engine room last summer.

The first of several signings

Manchester United are hoping to complete five signings this month, or which Eriksen is one.

They are also close to announcing a deal for Feyernoord defender Tyrell Malacia, while they are confident that they can see off competition from Arsenal for Ajax defender Lisandro Martinez.

The Red Devils will also sign a backup goalkeeper following the departure of Dean Henderson, and continue to try and force a deal for Frenkie de Jong, though that is proving more difficult than initially anticipated.

It is set to be a busy few days at Old Trafford.
