A horrific story surrounding developments away from the pitch in the Premier League has come to the fore on Monday evening.

This comes in the form of confirmation that an unnamed player, currently plying his trade in the top-flight of English football, has been arrested in north London, on suspicion of rape.

The info comes courtesy of The Telegraph, who reveal that the individual in question, who cannot be named for legal reasons, has been taken into custody over an attack alleged to have taken place late in June.

The player is said to be in his late 20s, ‘internationally renowned’, with his presence on his club’s upcoming pre-season tour now unclear.

An official statement on the part of the Metropolitan Police force confirmed the following:

‘On 4 July, an allegation of rape of a woman in her 20s was reported to police.

‘It was reported the alleged rape happened in June 2022.

‘On 4 July, a 29-year-old man was arrested at an address in Barnet on suspicion of rape and taken into custody where he remains.

‘Enquiries into the circumstances are ongoing.’
