French Champions Paris Saint Germain have confirmed that manager Mauricio Pochettino has been sacked by the club following a disappointing Champions League campaign that saw them knocked out in the round of 16 stage.
The Parisians were 2-0 up against eventual Champions League winners Real Madrid with 30 minutes to play, but a remarkable collapse saw them head out 3-2 on aggregate thanks to a Karim Benzema-inspired comeback.
And, after 18 months in charge, the hierarchy opted to make a change, with the Argentine relieved of his duties in charge of the French side.
“Paris Saint-Germain confirm that Mauricio Pochettino has ended his role at the Club”, the French club wrote on social media. “The Club would like to thank Mauricio Pochettino and his staff for their work and wish them the best for the future.”

Galtier incoming
There is little anticipation about who is next in the hotseat, with former Lille boss Christophe Galtier having already signed a deal to take charge of the Parisians for the upcoming season.

Galtier has worked well with new director of football Luis Campos during his stints at other clubs in Ligue 1, and PSG will be hoping that they can replicate this relationship on a European stage to propel them to a Champions League win to truly put them amongst the European elite.
