Manchester United are eyeing Ajax striker Brian Brobbey as a potential replacement for Cristiano Ronaldo, according to reports.

The Red Devils’ failure to secure Champions League football last season, along with United’s floundering in the transfer market, is said to have led to Ronaldo wanting to leave the club.

The striker did not return for pre-season training on Monday when he was expected to, with family reasons cited as to why. And then, on Thursday, it was reported that Ronaldo had been given permission to miss Manchester United’s pre-season tour.

So, with the future of Cristiano Ronaldo in doubt, Manchester United will be on the hunt for an adequate replacement for the Portuguese star.

One man Manchester United are considering as a potential replacement for Ronaldo, according to BILD, is Brian Brobbey.

It is claimed that a fee of just €15m would be enough to secure the signature of Brobbey, which would allow Manchester United to spend big elsewhere.

Who is Brian Bobbery?

Brian Bobbery is an Amsterdam native who has been on Ajax’s books since 2010 when he was still a youth. Bobbery is under contract with Ajax until 2025.

The striker has on 32 occasions for Ajax’s senior side, scoring 13 goals and providing three assists whilst doing so.

Last season, though, he was loaned out to German outfit RB Leipzig for the second half of the campaign. Bobbery made 13 appearances across all competitions for Leipzig but did not score a goal, instead providing three assists.

Not exactly a record that will fill Manchester United fans with confidence.
