Erik ten Hag held his first pre-match press conference as Manchester United manager on Monday.

Ten Hag’s first game as United boss will see the Red Devils face off with bitter rivals Liverpool at 2 pm UK time on Tuesday, July 12.

Ahead of that game, Ten Hag would discuss a number of topics in his presser, including new signing Tyrell Malacia:

“He has the profile of a modern full-back. Defending good and tough to beat and in offence really good, that’s why. Manchester United signed him],” Ten Hag said.

At present, though, Malacia is United’s only signing of the 2022 summer transfer window which, in reality, is not enough for a side who need at least another three top players brought in.

Among the names linked with United so far this summer, the most frequent have been Frenkie de Jong of Barcelona and free agent, Christian Eriksen.

And the Dutchman was asked about said duo in his pre-match press conference on Monday but gave little away:

“Eriksen and Frenkie de Jong deals? We want to add the right players,” he said. “We’ve really good squad, we are working to develop our way of playing”.

He added: “Frenkie de Jong? I never talk of players who are under contract with other clubs. I’m not gonna answer about Frenkie. How many signings? We’re still looking for players in the midfield and in offense”.

Finally, Ten Hag confirmed that Harry Maguire is still Manchester United captain.
