Manchester United are believed to be interested in signing Brentford striker Ivan Toney as a replacement for Cristiano Ronaldo.

After Ollie Watkins departed for Aston Villa during the delayed summer transfer window in 2020, Brentford required fresh legs to replace a man who netted 25 goals in 46 Championship outings last season.

The player the Bees settled on was Ivan Toney, whom they signed from League One outfit Peterborough.

Toney had notched 26 times in League One across the previous campaign, an impressive return.

But few were likely expecting the 25-year-old to prove quite as prolific as he has since been in the Championship.

Across 45 appearances in the English 2nd-tier, Toney has found the net on 31 occasions, as well as providing 10 assists. He also scored two in three as the Bees won the play-offs.

This was followed by Toney having a very solid debut campaign in the top-flight last time out.

He would net 12 and assist five across 33 outings for Brentford as they fought off relegation.

Now, the Mirror have reported that the 26-year-old Brentford striker has attracted serious interest from multiple Premier League clubs, with Manchester United, Newcastle, West Ham and Leeds all keen.

It is added that United are interested in signing Toney as a replacement for Cristiano Ronaldo.

In terms of a potential fee, the striker is currently valued at £32m by Transfermarket, but given how integral he is to Thomas Frank’s side, you would assume that Brentford would demand a fair bit more than that to part with Toney.

However, if United do sell Ronaldo, they will save a decent chunk of change from the Portuguese’s astronomical wages, which they could then put towards Toney.
