Fighting raged in the Sudanese capital on Tuesday, the eve of the Eid al-Adha Muslim holiday. The two warring generals have both proposed ceasefires to over the religious holiday, but experts believe a pause in fighting is unlikely.

“There have been a string of ceasefire deals since the US and Saudi Arabia held talks in the Saudi port of Jeddah last month, but none of these ceasefires have really held,” says FRANCE 24’s Leela Jacinto.

“Hopes are not high for the ceasefire holding and even if they do, it doesn’t look like the fighting is going to stop.”
