Bruce Springsteen was born to run, which, for the past five decades, has meant touring all over the world with his E Street Band. Now, a film documenting the group’s rehearsal process and famed performances is coming to Hulu and Disney+ this fall, as announced Tuesday (May 14).
Premiering on both streaming platforms in October, Road Diary: Bruce Springsteen and The E Street Band will give fans an up-close look at how The Boss and his crew prepare their live shows, featuring both archival footage of the longtime collaborators as well as behind-the-scenes video of their 2023-24 world tour. It will also include confessional interviews with the 74-year-old “Dancing in the Dark” singer, while members of the band will give first-hand accounts of performing onstage with the living legend and “keeping the magic of The E Street Band as potent as ever,” according to a release.
The Thom Zimny-directed project follows Springsteen’s past autobiographical efforts across various mediums, from his 2016 memoir Born to Run to 2018’s Netflix film Springsteen on Broadway. The 20-time Grammy winner is also involved in an upcoming biopic about his life and career from 20th Century Studios and Disney, in which The Bear’s Jeremy Allen White will star.
Zimny and Springsteen are credited as producers on Road Diary, as are Jon Landau, Adrienne Gerard and Sean Stuart.
The announcement comes shortly after Springsteen and The E Street Band wrapped the U.S. leg of their 2024 world tour in April, which found the musicians performing three-hour nightly shows complete with several surprise guests and a collective 60 different songs on the setlist. They are now in the midst of playing a string of venues in Europe this spring and summer, after which they’ll return to North America for more dates from August through late November.
The band had originally been slated to perform throughout last fall; however, Springsteen’s battle with peptic ulcer disease forced them to postpone. “Over here on E Street, we’re heartbroken,” the musician wrote in a statement at the time. “We’ll be back to pick these shows up and then some. Thank you for your understanding and support. We’ve been having a blast at our US shows and we’re looking forward to more great times. We’ll be back soon. Love and God bless all, Bruce.”
