Liverpool no.1 Alisson has been discussing his relationship with Jurgen Klopp.
Klopp signed Alisson from AS Roma in 2018 on the back of Liverpool’s Champions League final loss in which their main goalkeeper at the time, Loris Karius, had an absolute nightmare.
His display vs Real Madrid, as well as his performances throughout the rest of that season, made it clear Liverpool were never going to be a top, top side unless they improved their keeper.
This led to big money being spent on Alisson who, along with Virgil van Dijk, has transformed Liverpool’s defence into one of the best in Europe.
Alisson on his relationship with Jurgen Klopp
Now, when speaking to former Liverpool goalkeeper David James for Sony Sports India, Alisson has opened up on his relationship with Klopp and recalled his first meeting with the Reds boss:
“Yeah, it is a really good relationship,” said the Brazil international. “He’s like a father to me. When I spoke with him for the first time on a FaceTime video call, he just answered the call and started to smile, I started to smile and we could already see that we would have a connection. I think I have some feelings about life and how life works which are similar to him.
“I really like the way he works and the way he makes the team feel comfortable and at the same time puts pressure on us. He’s a guy who is always happy, but when you go onto the pitch it’s hard work, serious work and he’s a top manager, so all those things contribute to a good relationship. I really love to be here and working with him. I love my life here at Liverpool.”
Alisson remains under contract at Anfield until 2027 and as he is still only 29, Liverpool fans will no doubt be hoping he sticks around for many years to come.
For now, though, Alisson must turn his focus to international duty, where he will likely be featuring for Brazil vs Chile.
