Harry Kane took another significant step towards establishing himself as the leading goalscorer in the history of the English national team on Saturday evening.
Tottenham’s main man, as expected, was utilised from the off, as Gareth Southgate’s troops welcomed Switzerland to Wembley, for a friendly clash.
And Kane, as has become almost customary in the colours of the Three Lions, went on to add his name to the scoresheet, inside the closing fifteen minutes of action.
After a lengthy VAR check culminated in England being awarded a penalty, the nation’s attacking spearhead stepped up to rifle a fine effort into the bottom corner of Jonas Omlin’s net:

And, as alluded to above, in the process, Kane etched his name ever further into the history books of the English national team.
The 28-year-old has now found the net on 49 occasions for his country, moving into 2nd on the all-time goalscorer’s list, alongside Three Lions icon Bobby Charlton.
Kane, in turn, requires just five more goals to break the current record of 53, held by former Manchester United standout Wayne Rooney:

Kane’s latest strike on the international stage proved significant in more than simply guiding him ever-closer to Rooney’s long-standing benchmark, however.
In addition, it proved the winner at Wembley on Saturday evening, as England recovered from a goal down to get their latest round of fixtures off to the ideal start.
After Breel Embolo put Switzerland in front in London midway through the first-half, a fine finish on the part of Luke Shaw drew the hosts level on the stroke of the interval, before Kane completed the turnaround late on.
